Positively 4th Street

Schleifmühlgasse as a stage.
A piece for the street. A piece for its outsiders and asphalt icons. An interlude. A street-theatre sound and visual play.
12-14 Contemporary invites the audience to reverse their gaze and look outward—to open their view onto the street. The audience sits inside the gallery, while the performers blend into the everyday activity of Schleifmühlgasse.
Marie Sturminger and Felix Dennhardt develop scenes for the street: sometimes intimate, sometimes loud, sometimes comic. The performers are miked, but their performances can only be heard from inside the gallery.
As the audience watches the street, cuts in the sound determine where their attention shifts. The lighting of a cigarette blends into the chewing gum of a young boy and the voices of a couple arguing at a café. The gaze moves from one figure to another.
With its large glass façade, the gallery becomes a laboratory for observing and listening to the street.
